Healthy Aging - Screening To Analyse Your Health Risks

Knowing which part of your body might be aging faster than others can provide valuable information on how to protect against premature age related health issues and encourage good health into our latter years.

I have designed specific programs to help us achieve and maintain Optimum Performance and analyse risks. In Chapter 1 - 'Know Your Body'. of my new book 'Live Longer, Live Younger' I expand fully on various programs from which you can choose the level of screening appropriate for you.

Conventional screening tends to provide a 'flash' view of how we are but is really dependent on dis-ease or illness having taken hold or started. Predictive testing highlights where a risk of a condition exists prior to its setting in. My 'Regenerus Life Extension Program' combines optimum performance and risk analysis screening with a full conventional medical screen and, very importantly, an extensive predictive medical screen.

Examples of the use of ‘flash’ and predictive screening might be the use of sensitive blood analysis to detect cancer cells (circulating tumour cells (CTC) earlier than conventional screening but also test the anti-cancer immune system function and the body antioxidants level.

Another would be checking serum and urine for sugar levels to highlight the presence of diabetes whilst also measuring insulin and adiponectin - special markers that might predict the onset of diabetes before it starts.

We can also look at the immune status markers such as secretory IgA which can indicate basic immune system function and, if low, lead us to enhance immune system function prior to the winter and flu season.

Conventional testing for blood in the stool (a marker for cancer and inflammatory bowel disease) can be enhanced by testing for inflammatory markers, such as lactoferrin or calprotectin, that may show up the very earliest stages of such conditions thus catching disease early and before the disease is advanced enough to cause bleeding.

More doctors are practicing Functional Medicine (addressing the underlying causes of disease - http://www.functionalmedicine.org/about/whatisfm/ ) and ideas and concepts for screening are changing with more up to date research. The hope is that the points as laid out in my book will soon become common place and mainstream in medicine.

Is your home making you ill?

We may be exposed to over 700,000 chemicals a day in our homes.

Our clothes and furniture are impregnated with pesticides (when did any of us last see a mothball?) and fire retardants are added to household fabrics. Even the wood in our house is full of preservative. Our computers, when on and hot, are releasing volatile oxidative compounds, and when we heat our wonderfully well-insulated houses all of these chemicals vaporise and release into the draft-free, airless atmosphere.
