Heart beat irregularity – Arrhythmias (Atrial fibrillation, SVT and others)

Conventional medication or emergency treatment is the staring point for the control of any irregularity of the heart. Arrhythmia can be life-threatening. Once things are assessed fully and a cardiac specialist’s view is obtained it may be beneficial to consider an Integrated medical approach for longer term care.

Ongoing conventional care is predominantly about maintaining heart rhythm as close to regularity as possibly with or without drugs. A specialist will talk to their patient about various drugs and a therapy called ablation – pinpointing an area of the heart that may be causing the incorrect electrical signals with an electrical impulse. Many people will be recommended ‘blood thinners’ such as warfarin as an irregular heart runs the risk of sending a blood clot in to the lungs or brain

From an integrated point of view we need to consider what may be the underlying cause and to try to find and eliminate that.

In reviewing possible underlying reasons for the development of arrhythmia I generally recommend the following tests (done through blood and urine samples) for deficiencies and toxins which have been associated with a.fib and arrhythmias in current medical literature

  • Environmental Toxic Screen (pesticides, industrial waste etc)
  • Toxic metal screen
  • Essential Fatty Acid Profile
  • Mineral Profile
  • Vitamins B12 and D
  • Co Enzyme Q10
  • Antioxidant profile

The following tests, done through a blood sample, aim to identify toxins that might be attached to DNA and inner cell membranes of mitochondria which may be effecting the heart muscle or it’s nerves.

DNA adducts
Translocator protein adducts
Toxic effects of chemicals

There is also great benefit in testing heart arteries and their perfusion of the heart muscle through a non invasive technique called Arteriography. Information on that test can be viewed on my web site here: http://www.drsharmadiagnostics.com/arteriograph.htm

There is also evidence that supplementation with the following can help or at least improve the response to drugs
  • Magnesium
  • CoQ10
  • Blue/Green Algae (to absorb chemical toxins and heavy metals)
  • Zeolite with Alpha-lipoic acid ( a product called Alpha Clear)
  • Vitamin B12
  • Vitamin D

Is your home making you ill?

We may be exposed to over 700,000 chemicals a day in our homes.

Our clothes and furniture are impregnated with pesticides (when did any of us last see a mothball?) and fire retardants are added to household fabrics. Even the wood in our house is full of preservative. Our computers, when on and hot, are releasing volatile oxidative compounds, and when we heat our wonderfully well-insulated houses all of these chemicals vaporise and release into the draft-free, airless atmosphere.
